Doron and her 2 daughters, 4 year old Raz and 2 year old Aviv, went down to Kibbutz Nir Oz on Thursday to visit grandma (Doron’s mom, Efrat Katz, 67). Doron grew up in the Kibbutz and often visited her mother. This time though, the visit turned into tragedy when Hamas terrorists took them hostage on the morning of October 7th.
On the morning of that dark Saturday, Doron called her husband, Yoni, who had stayed home in Central Israel that weekend, and told him that they were locked in the home’s shelter, hiding, as they could hear gunshots just outside and voices inside the house. Yoni and Doron hung up the phone so the terrorists wouldn’t hear them, unfortunately, this was the last time they spoke.
Yoni tracked his wife’s phone and saw the device crossing to Khan Younis in southern Gaza, suggesting she had been taken. Not long after, a video surfaced on social media which showed Doron, her mother, and her two little girls, on the back of a pickup truck and a gunman trying to cover Doron’s head with a blindfold.
